Delaware Art Schools

 
Delaware offers a variety of art schools, from departments within universities to night classes run through the Education Department of art museums. Whether you want a degree or just want to improve your painting skills, you will find more opportunities in Delaware. In conjunction with specialties, art courses can lead to a career in graphic or interior design, museum or a leg up in the world of art.

Delaware College of Art and Design

Delaware College of Art and Design in Wilmington, Delaware is a specialty College, dealing in all aspects of art. The school offers a two-year Associate of Fine Arts Degree program that combines study teaching with a general liberal art education and art history. Students choose a specialty, including animations, the fine art of photography. The emphasis on a well-rounded education, particularly with a focus on theory, freedom of expression and critical thinking. The associate of Arts program at DCAD is developed in collaboration with Pratt Institute and Corcoran College of Art, so that students who complete this program are eligible to transfer to a bachelor's degree at these institutions.

Delaware State University

Delaware State University is a campus University in Dover, Delaware. It was founded in 1891 as the State College for Colored Students, and as in the beginning of 2011, 76 percent of the students are African-American. Art programs at DSU is offered through the Department of Visual and performing arts in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The focus of this section is both general art education and teacher training. Studies will focus on one of three areas: art education, ordinary art, and art management. Courses for this degree are diverse and include introduction to drawing, Ancient Art, Study of MacIntosh Studio and Jewelry Design.

University of Delaware

The Department of Art at the University of Delaware offers three bachelor of arts degrees: a bachelor's degree in arts, fine arts, or Visual communication. Education is largely based on the study, and a visiting artists program, the program provides internship and field trips. The Art degree is a general Arts program for those who are not looking for a professional career in the area: It is sometimes combined with another major. The art degree is more oriented to the professional work of art, while the Visual Communication option combines art with journalism and marketing. The school also offers a two-year Master of Fine Arts degree.

Center for Creative Arts

Centre for Creative Arts in Yorklyn, Delaware is an art school with adult education classes and children's programs. No qualifications are required to take classes, since this school stated goal is to bring art and art to people of all levels and ages. Among its programs, the art school offers Saturday morning art workshops for children, including painting, acting and ceramics. From time to time, the school holds art exhibitions to highlight the work of the CCA.

Delaware Art Museum

The Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington also offers a wide range of art classes and programs in its Bank of America Education Wing. It holds classes for adults, children and teens, ranging from Studio art workshops-try workshops includes Create-a-Kite and painted Easter Tiles. The school also showcases art in periodic exhibitions.
